A Tomb with a View
Drusilla

Drusilla was born in the mid 19th century, in Britain, the daughter of a good family. She was a pure, and religious girl, but was plagued by premonitions which her family believed to be evil. In 1860, Darla pointed her out to Angelus. He proceeded to torture Drusilla into madness, killing her family, and hunting her to the convent where she had taken refuge. She had planned to become a nun, but on the day she was due to take vows, he slaughtered the nuns, and then turned her.

As a vampire, Drusilla was still insane, but was no longer afraid of her premonitions - instead she embraced them. She travelled with Darla and Angelus, but eventually grew lonely, as their attention was all for one another. On the suggestion that she find herself a companion, she chose Spike (then William) and turned him. For the next twenty years they travelled with Darla and Angelus, until the latter was cursed with a soul. Drusilla helped slaughter the gypsies who had cursed her sire, though she feared his displeasure if he found out they had had a massacre with out him. Two years later found Drusilla, Spike and Darla in China during the Boxer rebellion. To Dru's delight, Spike killed his first Slayer there.

For the next 97 years, Drusilla certainly remained with Spike, and possibly also with Darla for some of the time. In the 1970's, Spike killed a Slayer in New York, and he had also been at Woodstock - Dru would doubtless have been with him. At some point they also visited Prague, and it was there that Drusilla was attacked and almost killed by a mob.

In late 1997, Spike and Drusilla arrived in Sunnydale. Dru was very weak and eating little, but Spike was determined to restore her to full health. She still had premonitions, though her mind seemed to wander more and more. Spike was adept at interpreting her visions, though. Eventually, they found a cure for Dru's weakness - a ritual which required the blood of her sire. Spike captured Angel, and Drusilla tortured him with holy water, reminding him of the harm he'd caused to her. Although the ritual was interrupted by Buffy, Drusilla was rejuvenated, and rescued the now badly injured Spike.

To celebrate her restoration, Dru decided to throw a party. Her 'present' was a demon called the Judge, who burned humanity. Though her plans were slightly disrupted by the Slayer at one point, she and a now wheelchair-bound Spike succeeded in assembling the demon. However, that night Angel lost his soul by consummating his relationship with Buffy. Drusilla felt when it happened, and Angel soon returned to the 'family', to Dru's delight. Angel accompanied Dru to the mall, where they planned to set the Judge loose. When Buffy destroyed the Judge, Drusilla escaped - shaken, but unharmed.

Drusilla continued to nurse Spike back to health, but she very much enjoyed the attention that Angel lavished upon her now that Darla was no longer there (and Spike weak). She and Angel hunted together, and when the demon Acathla was unearthed, she and Angel lead a party of minions to steal it. She was very excited about the prospect of sucking the world into hell, and when Angel couldn't make the ritual work, she lead a party of vampires to the library where they disrupted the soul restoration curse that Willow was trying to perform, and captured Giles. Drusilla also fought and killed the slayer Kendra, hypnotising her and slitting her throat. Dru used her hypnotic abilities again later, making Giles believe that she was Jenny so that he would tell her how to complete the ritual.

When Spike attacked Angel during the ritual, Dru was enraged, and attacked Spike in turn. However, he was the stronger, and managed to knock her out, driving out of Sunnydale with her. He took her to South America, but she could not forgive him for working with the Slayer. She had a fling with a Chaos Demon, and when Spike found out they argued and she eventually left him.

Drusilla was brought to LA by Wolfram and Hart, for the purpose of turning Darla. Dru was excited about the prospect of becoming a 'mummy', and insisted on following the traditions of a burial, but with a view of the stars. She stayed with Lindsey for a while, before he brought her to Darla's hotel room where she turned her. Drusilla was concerned when Darla ran away (jumping off a tall building) after she awoke, but the two were soon reunited. Dru couldn't understand why Darla was so angry with her, explaining that she'd turned her because she thought it was what Darla wanted.

Once Darla was back to her old self, she and Dru embarked on a killing spree, starting with a clothes boutique, and then some of the staff of Wolfram and Hart. Drusilla expressed a liking for Lilah, which may have been what saved the lawyer. Drusilla seems more than happy to follow Darla's lead in most matters, and still refers to her as "Grandmother".

However, it has been implied that Drusilla took charge of matters when Darla was in shock over Angel burning them, and took Lindsey to Darla so he could look after her. She then returned to Sunnydale to try and recruit Spike to their cause. She almost suceeded, and had the opportunity to kill the Slayer, but was thwarted by Spike who had fallen in love with Buffy.

Although Dru is insane, and not as strong minded as Darla, she is quite capable of taking care of herself, and is quite deadly and ruthless - perhaps more so because her insanity means she cannot always be reasoned with. She is a powerful and dangerous vampire, and has more than the usual traits of strength and agility to aid her. She has used her hypnotic abilities on more than one occasion, and her premonitions are a powerful tool. However, Drusilla doesn't always interpret them well herself, particularly, it seems when they relate to personal danger. She was almost killed by the mob in Prague, and again by Angel when he tried to burn her and Darla - yet Drusilla had had a premonition of fire and pain shortly beforehand. Dru also seems to have the ability to read minds to some extent, recognising that Giles would talk to Jenny, and that Darla missed Angelus.

Despite her madness, Drusilla is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
