This timeline covers both the chronological years, and the episodes from Buffy and Angel that we see Darla and Drusilla's story in. Episode titles are shown in brackets, like [this]. NB - contains detailed spoilers for Seasons 1-5 Buffy and 1-3 Angel.
c.1584-89 'Darla' (original name unknown) born, assuming she was between 20-25 when she died.
1609 A dying prostitute is turned on her deathbed in Virginia, by the Master [Darla]. He would rename her Darla at some point over the next 150 years.
1753 Darla sees Liam, a young Irish gentleman, in a bar and later turns him in an alleyway [Becoming, The Prodigal].
1760 Darla presents Liam, now known as Angelus ("the one with the angelic face") to the Master. They then leave the Masters' court together to live above ground [Darla].
1764 Darla and Angelus are pursued across the countryside near York in England by the vampire hunter Holtz. He and his men believe they have them trapped in a house, but when he bursts in, finds only a note. Meanwhile, Darla and Angelus have tricked their way into Holtz' own house, where they kill his wife and baby, and turn his young daughter, Sarah, into a vampire - thus forcing Holtz to kill her himself after he discovers what has been done [Quickening, Lullaby].
1765 Darla and Angelus flee across the French countryside from Holtz, their habit of killing servants in the hotels they stay in having made them easy to track. Darla abandons Angelus, telling him to meet her in Vienna if he survives [The Trial].
1767 Darla and Angelus are in Marseilles, France, with another vampire couple, James and Elizabeth. They have just killed the Comte de Leon and burned his villa to the ground - Angelus and Darla are concerned that this will bring Holtz straight to them. They are planning to travel to Morocco next, and Darla wonders if they will have to flee further, to the New World, to avoid the vampire hunter. Holtz catches up with them - Angelus and James stay to confront him while Darla and Elizabeth go ahead to their ship. However, Holtz wants Darla. Angelus doesn't hesitate in giving Holtz her whereabouts, then effects his own escape. Darla presumably escapes Holtz with similar lack of trouble.
1771 Angelus is captured and tortured by Holtz who is being assisted by Monsignor Rivalli and his monks of the Inquisitore order. We discover that Holtz has pursued Darla and Angelus around the world - they lost him in North Africa, but he knew they would return to Europe. They are now in Rome because Darla loves Botticelli's frescos in the Sistine Chapel. Darla and her minions mount a rescue mission, and she and Angelus escape. She decides not to kill Holtz because ruining his life is so much more fun [Offspring].
1773 Holtz makes a bargain with the demon Sahjhan to be taken two hundred years into the future to confront Angelus and Darla.
c.1840 Drusilla born, assuming she was about 18-20 when she died.
1860 Darla and Angelus are in London. Darla points out a young innocent girl - Drusilla - to Angelus [Dear Boy]. Angelus tortures her, killing her family and driving her mad, before finally turning her [Becoming, Dear Boy].
1880 Drusilla has grown lonely, as her sire's attention is all for Darla. She sees a young man called William, and follows him to a stable, where she bites and turns him. William takes the nickname Spike, and his reckless behaviour causes trouble for the foursome [Fool For Love].
1898 Darla brings Angelus a young gypsy girl as a gift [Five by Five]. However, the girls family curses Angelus with a soul in revenge [Becoming]. Darla throws Angelus out of their house [Five by Five], then tries to persuade the gypsies to undo the curse. However, Spike kills the rest of the gypsy family before Darla can persuade the clan head, and Drusilla, Spike and Darla then massacre the rest of the camp [Darla].
1900 Darla, Spike and Drusilla are in China, during the Boxer Rebellion. Angelus follows Darla there, and tries to 'reform'. However, he is unable to go back to his old murderous ways. Spike kills his first Slayer during the rebellion, to Drusilla's delight [Fool For Love, Darla].
1977 Drusilla is presumably in New York with Spike, where he killed his second Slayer [Fool For Love].
1997 (Mar) Darla is in Sunnydale, California, awaiting the Master's ascension. He had been trapped for 60 years, but it is unknown whether she had been in Sunnydale the whole time. She encounters the Slayer, and is also in the Bronze when Buffy foils the Harvest (meaning the Master remained trapped). Darla has holy water thrown in her face, but escapes [Welcome To The Hellmouth, The Harvest].
1997 (Apr) Darla persuades the Master to let her try to bring Angel back into the fold. She confronts him, and tells him to stop trying to fight his true nature, then plots to turn the Slayer against him by biting Joyce and framing Angel for it. When this fails, she tries something a little more drastic - shooting Buffy. Unfortunately, Angel stakes her in the back and dusts her [Angel].
1997 (Sept-Nov) Spike and Drusilla arrive in Sunnydale. Drusilla is weak - she was almost killed by a mob in Prague - but is able to advise Spike through her visions. Spike fights the Slayer on more than one occasion, but fails to kill her. Buffy uses Drusilla's life as a bargaining tool to force Spike to release captive victims. Eventually, Spike finds a cure for Drusilla's weakness - his plan is partly foiled by the Slayer and he is badly injured, but Drusilla is returned to full strength [School Hard, Halloween, Lie to Me, What's My Line].
1998 (Jan) Drusilla is planning to resurrect The Judge - a demon who burns away humanity. The Slayer intercepts one of his parts (he has been dismembered - the only way to defeat him), and she and Angel discover that Spike and Dru still live. After a night of passion with Buffy, Angel loses his soul and join Spike and Dru. Dru is delighted at her sire's return to the 'family'. The Slayer defeats The Judge, but Drusilla escaped unharmed [Surprise, Innocence].
1998 (Feb&Apr) Drusilla and Angelus continue to terrorise Sunnydale, while Spike is still recovering from his injuries. Drusilla is still solicitous of him, but enjoys having the attention of her sire again. Drusilla senses that Jenny is seeking to restore Angel's soul, and warns him. After Giles and Buffy burn the factory to the ground, the three vampires relocate to a mansion - Drusilla loves the garden there particularly [Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered, Passion, I Only Have Eyes For You].
1998 (May) When Angelus and Dru plan to suck the world into hell, Spike, who has concealed the fact that he can walk again teams up with Buffy to defeat them - he feels he has lost Dru to Angelus, and wants her back. Drusilla leads a gang of vampires to the library, where they attack the Scooby gang, capturing Giles. Drusilla fights and kills the slayer, Kendra. Later, she hypnotises Giles and makes him tell her how to activate Acathla. While Buffy fights Angelus, she fights Spike, but he knocks her out, and drives out of town with her [Becoming].
1998 (Summer) Drusilla dumps Spike for a Chaos Demon, as she senses that his head is full of the Slayer. She tells him they can still be friends [Lover's Walk, Fool For Love].
1999 It's implied that Spike and Dru did get back together, but she dumped him again for a slime demon [The Harsh Light of Day].
2000 (May-Sept) Wolfram and Hart resurrect Darla in an ancient ritual, to use her as a tool to bring Angel to the dark side [To Shanshu in LA]. It takes her a little while to regain her memories, and when she does, she is eager to meet up with Angel again [Judgement].
2000 (Oct) Darla haunts Angel in his dreams, then eventually allows him to catch a glimpse of her. She has him completely obsessed with finding her. Finally, he comes face to face with her, only to discover that she is human. At first, she pretends not to know him or anyone called Darla, and tries to set him up for the murder of her 'husband'. Angel kidnaps her, and she admits who she is, and that she wants him back - and dark [First Impressions, Untouched, Dear Boy].
2000 (Nov) Darla appears to begin to react to having a soul, smashing up her apartment, and any mirrors she sees - Holland tells Lindsey that she is cracking up, and may be suicidal. She calls Angel, begging him to help her. She shoots a security guard at Wolfram and Hart, and escapes with Lindsey's help - however, this is all a set-up to get to Angel. Darla is 're-captured' by Wolfram and Hart, and Angel rescues her. He takes her back to his hotel, where she begs him to save her - and turn her back into what she was. He refuses, and she leaves, telling him not to look for her again [Darla].
2000 (Nov) Darla discovers that she is dying, and becomes more desperate to find someone to re-make her a vampire. She picks a 'stupid one', but Angel stakes him before he can bite her. Darla tells Angel of her illness - he tries to help her, but his best efforts fail. Darla has just become resigned to her humanity and impending final death, when Wolfram and Hart take a hand again - Lindsey brings in Drusilla, who bites and turns Darla [The Trial].
2000 (Dec) Drusilla insists on having the proper rituals - a burial for her new 'daughter', with a view of the stars, so Wolfram and Hart arrange for her to use a rooftop plant nursery. Angel finds them there, but Drusilla prevents him from staking Darla before she awakes a vampire. When Darla does awake, she is confused and angry - after fighting both Angel and Drusilla, she jumps off the edge of the building. Drusilla is concerned, and returns to Wolfram and Hart where Darla later finds her. They leave together, but Darla is still angry and confused, and she and Drusilla fight in the street. Drusilla tries to explain that she had thought Darla wanted to be turned - and saved. They embrace, and after Darla makes her first kill, she feels just like her old self again. They go shopping, killing two shop assistants, and then gate-crash Holland's party. Angel tracks them there, but instead of fighting them, instead locks them in the room with the lawyers. Darla and Drusilla kill Holland, his wife, and most of the contracts department [Reunion].
2001 (Jan) Darla and Dru pay a visit to Lindsey and Lilah, the two survivors of Holland's party. Having re-opened communications with Wolfram and Hart, Darla and Drusilla are looking to build up an army of 'muscular slaves', and have a little fun in LA. Angel finally feels ready to go up against them, kills the demons who had come to 'audition' for them, and when Darla and Drusilla arrive, sets them alight. However, they Darla manages to knock the head off of a fire hydrant which douses the flames. They are badly burned, but alive [Redefinition].
2001 (Feb) Drusilla leads Lindsey to Darla, who is apparently both physically and mentally scarred from their encounter with Angel [Reprise]. Dru then takes a train to Sunnydale, with the intention of bringing Spike back to their little family. She almost persuades him, killing for him so he can feed. However, when she tazers Buffy into unconsciousness, his love for the Slayer wins out. Spike knocks Dru out and threatens to kill her to prove his love to Buffy, but when Harmony attacks Spike, Dru is able to free herself and attacks the Slayer. Spike stops Dru from killing Buffy, and Dru leaves, telling Spike that not even she can help him now [Crush].
2001 (Feb) Darla plays on her supposed weakness to Lindsey, feigning disorientation, as he continues to care for her and hide her from both Angel and Wolfram and Hart. While he is out of the room, she reads his papers, and learns of the upcoming 75-year Review at Wolfram and Hart. She presumably is keeping track of Angel's movements, and shows up at the bookshop when he is researching a way to destroy the Senior Partner and gain the Band of Blacknill - a ring which allows the wearer to pass between dimensions. She runs the shopkeeper and Angel through with an antique sword, and steals the glove which can be used to destroy the manifesting Senior Partner. Without telling Lindsey, Darla disguises herself and attends the Review. However, Angel gatecrashes, and uncovers her by throwing holy water in her face. They fight, but Angel is victorious, and Lindsey helps Darla escape a staking by the guards [Reprise].
2001 (Feb) After escaping the Wolfram and Hart offices, Darla makes her way to the Hyperion, and confronts Angel when he arrives there. They fight, then Angel finally snaps and kisses her instead. They have their own night of (savage) passion, but this time Angel doesn't lose his soul. Darla can't believe it, and is shocked and angry when Angel then tells her he feels nothing for her. He threatens to kill her the next time he sees her, then leaves. Darla returns to Lindsey, apparently in shock for real this time. Wolfram and Hart have put out a 'stake-on-sight' order on Darla, and Lindsey seems willing to help her hide. When she tells him what happened between her and Angel, he goes on a vengeance trip. By the time he returns, Darla has cleared out her things and gone [Reprise, Epiphany].
2001 (Sept) Darla is in Mexico, searching for a shaman. She kills the man who brings her information on shaman's whereabouts. Oh, and she is very, very pregnant [Heartthrob].
2001 (Oct) Darla visits the shamen and demands he tell her what it is that is growing inside of her. He attempts to perform a ritual, but is thrown back by some force when he lays his hands on Darla's stomach. He tells her that he cannot help her, as no man is meant to know what it is. Darla decides that that only leaves one thing to do - visit "Daddy" [That Vision Thing].
2001 (Oct) Darla arrives in LA, slaughtering several bus passengers on the way. She makes a dramatic entrance at the Hyperion, shocking the entire Angel Investigations team with her condition. She wants them to try and find out why and how it has happened. They're all confounded, so take her to see The Host, but he also has no idea what the child could be. They are all worried that the child could be connected to a prophecy of a forthcoming dark force. Darla is in some discomfort, so Cordelia helps her to Lorne's bedroom to rest, but Darla attacks her and bites her. Angel stops Darla, but she then escapes. She now seems to be stronger than ever. However, Cordelia had a vision as Darla bit her, and Angel is able to track Darla to a shopping arcade. He rescues a child from her, and they fight - as they do, Angel realises that the child has a heartbeat and soul, which is making Darla crave more, younger victims. He promises to help her, and takes her back to the Hyperion. Meanwhile, in another part of town, the demon Sahjhan performs a ritual, and Holtz awakes from his 227 year sleep [Offspring].
2001 (Nov) The Angel Investigations team decide they need to find out exactly what Darla is carrying so that they can figure out what to do after it's birth. Darla reveals that the baby is magically protected from harm, and that she has previously tried and failed to get rid of it. Wolfram and Hart (who have surveillance bugs planted in the hotel) discover Darla's presence and pregnancy. Darla's contractions begin, and the Angel Investigations team decide to take her to a hospital to perform an ultrasound. The contractions prove to be false labour, and the team discover that Darla is carrying a human boy. However, there are prophecies about the child, and various factions want him - or want him dead - for their own reasons. A ninja hired by Lilah, and a vampire cult attack at the hospital, while Wolfram and Hart invade the Hyperion. However, Holtz also shows up at the hotel, kills the Wolfram and Hart operatives, and when Angel arrives, captures him. Meanwhile, back in the car, Darla's waters break [Quickening].
2001 (Nov) Darla's contractions become more frequent, and painful. The Angel Investigations team try to calm her, but when Wesley suggests she try breathing exercises, she flings them all away from the car in another show of strength. She becomes somewhat hysterical, but feels well enough to travel. However, when they try to drive away, they are attacked by demons that are working for Holtz - he wants Darla as well as Angelus, mentioning that she was always the tricky, unpredictable one. As Wes, Gunn and Cordelia fight the demons, Darla gets into the driving seat of the car, uses it to knock the demons down, and drives away. Angel escapes from Holtz, and after bringing his team up to speed, goes to search for Darla. He finds her on a rooftop, where Darla reveals to him that the baby's pure soul has affected her, causing her to feel real love for the child, regret for her evil past, and fear that she will no longer feel the same after the baby is born and its soul is no longer inside of her. Angel promises her that he won't let her hurt the baby, and takes her to Caritas - a sanctuary where the baby could be born in safety. However, Darla's contractions have slowed, and Fred notices that she has been bleeding. The baby's heartbeat has become faint. Wesley realises that Darla's body is unable to give birth, and the forces protecting the child mean that a cesarian would be impossible. Darla also senses that the baby's life is slipping away. At that moment, Holtz attacks the club by bombing it from outside (therefore getting around the non-violence spells). When Darla learns of his presence, she expresses her regret at what she and Angel did to him and his family. They escape from the burning club, but Darla is too weak to go far. Angel waits with her in the alley outside the club while the others go for the car. Darla tells Angel that she wants to be sorry for turning him, but can't be, and that this child is the only good thing they had done together. Then, before Angel can stop her, she stakes herself with a broken piece of wood, leaving their baby, alive, in her ashes [Lullaby].
